Melissa Fisher is an award-winning director, writer, and multi-hyphenate in the industry. Her directorial work marries poetic imagery and technical craft to create emotionally evocative drama. She is a member of the AFI DWW+ 2026 fellowship, and a member of the International Cinematographer's Guild with over 15 years of experience on the sets of Academy® and Emmy® Award-winning films and television series.
Fisher graduated from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts with a BFA in Film Production. Fisher worked her way up from a camera PA on Michael Bay’s PAIN & GAIN to camera assist on films like Damien Chazelle’s LA LA LAND and FIRST MAN, to eventually running the camera department on hit television shows like GLOW and THE DROPOUT. Her experience behind the camera has given her a keen sense for aesthetic visual storytelling.
Fisher is drawn to projects that tackle social justice themes and highlight marginalized communities. Her most recent short film INSIDE THESE WALLS was chosen as a finalist for the Pandora Short Film Grant, and stars Isabella Briggs (THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY) and Bobby Soto (THE TAX COLLECTOR). The story centers around a young family navigating the U.S. prison system, and is set to premiere at the Director’s Guild of America in March 2026.
Fisher’s previous film BUSCANDO ALMA focused on immigration and gender identity, and won numerous awards around the world including the Oscar®-qualifying Jury Award at Atlanta’s Out On Film Festival making it eligible for the 2025 Academy Awards®.
Fisher recently shadowed director Patrick Cady on the Amazon Prime series BALLARD, is currently prepping her debut feature film IN THE WAKE OF YOUTH.
